A Hip-Hop Dance Musical about learning to love yourself
Star is not cared for, nor is she shown much kindness, yet she remains kind and caring. She sees beauty everywhere she looks. Except when she looks at herself, she is appalled. This is strange because inside and out she is the most beautiful of all.
STAR MIDNIGHT, a Hip Hop dance musical that follows an orphan, Star on her journey to self-love. At the beginning of the story, we find Star trying to navigate her way through a maze of meanness. Because of her deeply dark skin, she is bullied at school and at home.
At home, Star is being raised by her “color struck” Grandmother, who compromises Star’s mental health by conditioning her to hide in the shadows. She has a big heart and a lonely existence. Star longs to be accepted into a circle of friends at her new school but doesn’t feel worthy. When she is attacked by the Queen of the mean girls, she tries to keep her head down and quietly survive it…. Until very unlikely someone points out Star’s beauty and talent. Using pulsing Hip Hop Dance and soulful singing, we follow Star as she learns to embrace and celebrate herself.
