JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: This position is assigned to the Prep4Life program within the Asante Children’s Theatre Program Department and reports to the Artistic Director or their designee. The Prep4Life program is used to introduce the fundamentals of performance art to young artists 6 – 14 years old. The Prep4Life program season includes three sessions from September to June where skill development training and rehearsals occur on Saturday mornings and Thursday evenings. Our training process ends with public performances and celebration activities. The job includes but is not limited to: Conducting theatre activities with groups in public facilities. Organizing and promoting activities, such as theatre arts, specifically acting, singing, dance and storytelling while considering the needs and interests of individual members.

NOTE: Qualified individuals may also work during the summer months (June – August), Monday – Thursday, hours vary.

QUALIFICATIONS: We are looking for individuals who have work-related skill, knowledge or experience in providing instruction in the performing arts specifically (acting, singing, dance or storytelling) to youth ages 6 – 14 years of age. Our teaching artists are flexible and are open to change (positive or negative) and can work in a team setting. They are dependable and committed to fulfilling their obligations to the best of their abilities. Our teaching artists maintain self-control, are open to constructive criticism and model the behavior we expect our young artists to mimic. Our teaching artists are sensitive to the needs of others and have the capacity to modify teaching methods to accommodate the needs of our youth. Our teaching artists can teach within the context of the African and African American experience and can initiate, facilitate and moderate discussions. Our teaching artists can communicate information and ideas in speaking so young people will understand. Employment is contingent upon the completion of a criminal background check which includes fingerprinting.
